Five For Friday: The Five W’s Of Rest Edition

When (Is It Beddy-Bye Time). Years ago I came across a rather treacle-y poem called The Last Time, which talked about the many “lasts” in parenting, the upshot of which is enjoy it all because one day they won’t hold your hand to cross the street, you won’t read them bedtime stories, they won’t climb into your bed at night. Etcetera. I will admit that at some point in my life I would have been very emotionally moved but now it just fills me with puzzlement. When WAS the last time any of those things happened? Things I thought I’d never forget are completely lost to the annals of time. I cannot remember when I stopped tucking the children in to bed for the night, for example. I cannot remember what ages they were when I would have supervised bedtime and told them it was Lights Out. Were they 12 and 13? 11 and 12? Who can say. All I know is that it has been many years since I was responsible for anyone’s bedtime except my own, and my own bedtime happens much, much earlier than the rest of my family, including my husband. We never go to bed at the same time; I typically am in bed well before 9:00 pm and am fast asleep by the time he retires for the night. This is not a commentary about the state of our marriage, don’t worry! I am more of an Afternoon Delight kind of gal, rather than a Pina Colada one. Making love at midnight, are you crazy? Unless I decide to start a cocaine habit, that is OUT.

Where the magic happens.

Why (Am I Obsessed With Bedtime). Even without cocaine, I am a pretty high energy person, somewhat like a Jack Russell terrier, and I believe strongly in the yin/ yang connection – if a person has too much yang in their life, their bodies will force them to get yin, typically via a illness. Believe me, I have been there. Our go-go-go society pretends to value productivity at all costs, but in my mind true productivity can only come from a rested body and mind. REM Y REM is my motto – Rest, Exercise, Meditation, Yoga, and REM sleep. I really make a point to prioritize sleep; if I have a bad night of sleep, I have no compunction whatsoever about taking a sleep aid the next night to get reset. I feel no shame in that game; needs must, sometimes, as my grandma would say. I have always been an early riser; I wake up naturally between 4 and 4:30, and because of this I work my bedtime backwards from there. I typically get an average of 7 1/2 hours of sleep a night during the week, according to my watch, and I get a little more than that on weekends; I can usually coax myself back to sleep for an hour or two. It’s not often that I get less than 7 hours of sleep, but when I do I can really tell in my face and body, which become haggard-looking and creaky, respectively, not to mention my brain, which becomes foggy and unfocused. I’m like a cross between Aunt Bethany and C3PO. I’m not, however, an actual robot and I am in perimenopause, so despite my best efforts, plenty of nights have me waking up sweaty at strange hours with my mind racing, but I try to take it in a zen way, which means I am often doing breathing exercises in the middle of the night and telling myself that a) just lying and resting is beneficial, even if I’m not technically sleeping, and b) my body is a wonderland and hot flashes are a natural part of a woman’s life, if she’s lucky, which I am. Usually this borderline unhinged way of thinking is enough to lure my body back into slumberland, or into an incredible state of boredom that is akin to slumberland, at least until 4:30, when I am Wide Awake and Ready For The Day.

Good morning world!

What (Do I Do To Prepare). The act of getting ready for bed feels almost ritualistic for me; I love the feeling of ending the day and preparing for my cozy bed. I start my bedtime routine about an hour before I actually snuggle into said cozy bed; I floss and brush my teeth, I detangle and brush my hair, I remove my makeup and put on a number of different moisturizers on various parts of my face and body, and I put on my pajamas. Every day I carefully choose pretty workout clothing even though my gym is in the basement and I work out before anyone else is awake, and every day I put on a coordinated outfit with jewelry and makeup even if I am going nowhere and seeing no one, so it should surprise no one that every night I wear pretty, matching pajamas. Every evening I choose my pajama set based on the season, the temperature, and my general mood. I have many pajama sets, thanks to Christmas and birthday gifts mostly from my mother, but also from my husband. I have worn pretty nightwear for my entire life, so the idea of NOT choosing a pajama set is as foreign to me as not matching my bag to my shoes, or going a day without makeup, which is to say, incredibly foreign. After I am pajamaed and lubed up, I join my husband on the couch for a while, reading while he watches TV. I don’t read in bed because I reserve the bed for sleep and sexytimes only, and also to fold laundry on. I am adamant about not using any screens, other than the TV in my periphery, before my bedtime, to the chagrin of anyone trying to text me after 8:00. By the time 8:30 rolls around, I’m making my way up to bed and nestling in.

Where I wish the magic would happen.
Stop! Jammie Time.

Who (Changed My Life With Her Life-Changing Magic). Many years ago I adopted the KonMari method of decluttering and tidying, and I started rolling all my clothing pieces that reside in drawers. The exception was pajamas, which tend to be floppier than regular clothes, and resist rolling. My pajama drawer felt like a mess compared with its daytime-wear compatriots. That is, until a few years ago, when Gigi (HI GIGI) mentioned her brilliant method of rolling pajamas: she puts the top and bottom flat together and THEN rolls them up, and it is simply genius. Why didn’t I think of that? In any case, I have done that ever since, which means I have perfectly organized pajama drawers, and can choose my set with ease.

Rolling, rolling, rolling in a pajama drawer.

Where (Am I Going). In the theme of rest and relaxation, my husband and I are heading to Mexico for a week. We are meeting our good friends down there and I am so excited; am I more excited about the trip itself, or about not preparing dinners for a whole week? Who can say. I’m just happy to be going somewhere, to be honest. Maybe I’ll even have some pina coladas! Who am I kidding, I don’t even like pina coladas, no euphemism implied. Today is filled with all those exciting pre-holiday things, like a pedicure and sugaring, and seeing how many bikinis and sundresses I can squeeze into a carryon. In any case, I’m looking forward to fun, food, and lots of relaxation; I will catch up with you all when I return. Take care, friends. xo

I see some very fun Christmas pajamas in that drawer! I’m seriously bummed out about putting my Christmas pjs away- which tells me I need to get new pajamas that I love, as opposed to my old ratty ones with holes in them.
This was a great post for me because as you know I struggle with sleep. This week, my body finally decided to rebel and I’ve been really exhausted, SO I’m getting in bed earlier. Of course that doesn’t mean I’m sleeping soundly through the night, but as you mentioned, that’s a whole other topic.
I’m excited for you! The trip to Mexico sounds amazing, and I can’t wait to hear all about it. I hope you have an amazing time.

    • You DEFINITELY need new cute jammies that are exciting to wear. Do you want me to come down and shop with you? BECAUSE I WILL.
I’m happy you’re getting more sleep but not happy that your body is forcing you! But I totally get it. Sometimes it’s hard to get restful sleep the whole night through.

  2. I have a few pairs of matching PJ’s, but I don’t usually sleep in them. I get so hot, that wearing them is useless: I put them on while readying for bed and then place them on my nightstand when I get into bed, having them there in case of an emergency.

I’ve always been fascinated that you apply makeup when not leaving the house. I mean, I get it, but I just can’t use my energy for that any more. I’m in reserve mode for my energy and must save it. (Said in the CP30 voice)

I hope you guys have the VERY best time in Mexico. Sun. Warmth. Housekeeping! No cooking! I’m excited for you. XO

    • You are one hot lady, Suz! Also, imagine if your house was on fire and your pjs weren’t there and you had to run out of the house naked! Ahhhhh!
HOUSEKEEPING YESSSSS OMG SOMEONE WILL CLEAN THE BATHROOM AND IT WON’T BE ME

      • I have dreams of running out of the house, forgetting my clothes. That ain’t pretty.
You’ll be living the dream in Mexico, at least for the time being.

  3. I am an early-to-bed person, too, but not as early, mostly 10ish, though I’m always happy if I manage to get to bed before that. I’m very sensitive to not getting enough sleep. If I get even a little less than usual, I feel it.

Have a great trip! Will it be just you and Rob?

    • 10 seems pretty lively and wild to me, Steph! But yes, I feel it WAY more than I used to, if I don’t get enough sleep.
It is just the two of us from this house, but we are meeting friends from Calgary down there.

  4. I’m always down for some bedroom talk! I can’t remember when the boys stopped needing to be put to bed or the last time that one of them came into our room during the night because of a bad dream or some other childhood emergency. All I know is that it used to be a regular occurrence and now it is not.

I agree that night time is my least favorite time to get “busy”, and when I tell you how great WFH is you can read into that what you will. On weeknights the Hubs and I go to bed at the same time, and it’s even money who turns out the light first. On weekends I’m usually in bed and asleep by the time he comes up. In recent years I’ve lost my passion for getting up super early for workouts so these days I laze around in bed until 6, and on non-work days I tend to wake up at sunrise.

SLEEP IS GOLD and everyone needs to do what they need to do to get the gold. I know what sleep looked like for my grandmother and now my mother and I am not going down that path. So far listening to sleep meditations takes care of most of my sleep problems but if I ever needed something more I would do it.

  5. “Where I wish the magic would happen” – I was like wait, she wants IT to happen in the bathroom? Then I realized you wanted the lotions and potions to be magical – haha! I’m so with you on the pajamas being cute, but do you choose a new pair each night? I shower before bed and wear the same pajamas for a few days, it that TMI? Have a wonderful vacation!!!

  6. Oh, have the bestest time in Mexico and all the fun, Nicole!! I can’t wait to vicariously get some sun and sand via you in a week.

You KNOW how much I needed to read this post about sleep rituals! I’m going to start channeling you someday for sure. Actually, I do all of these things except the timing and duration of sleep, so I just need to start doing it a few hours earlier.

All your pictures (you, snow, sunset) are so pretty!!

  7. Well this was fun. I had to chuckle at sexytimes because this is exactly the term we use in our house (well, one of them – others I shan’t mention). I am a morning gal, even though I hate mornings. An evening romp – sigh. My brain and body are so tired and that is when I really wish I had a male libido. I can’t get anything to cooperate at that time of day. Also the kids are often awake and nothing kills a moment like a knock on the door.

I hope you have THE BEST time in Mexico. And no cooking?! Yay. You deserve this 100x over.

Love all the jammies. I have two pairs and wear them each a few days at a time before washing, but I am now inspired to up my PJ game. I always feel so much better if I get dressed and put on makeup, but it’s uninspiring to do so in the winter.

That view in the morning from your window is CHEF’S KISS.

And ditto – if I have a horrible night sleep, I will often take a sleep aid the next night. If not, I descend into a horrible spiral of not sleeping well and it’s bad for everyone/everything.

    • Oh girl, I hear you. Evening romps, who thought that was a good idea? I barely am coherent, let alone, well, sexy. LEAVE ME ALONE I HAVE SERUMS ON. And hoo boy, yes on the kids at home/ awake. That is a real, um, boner killer but for women? I don’t know what is the equivalent.

  8. Your sleep hygiene is EXTREMELY impressive. My husband’s rivals yours (lights out between 9:50 and 10:00, never a moment later; up at 4:45). Meanwhile I have recently (as in this week) adopted an 11:00 to 6:30 routine and feel VERY proud for accomplishing it like three times this week. 😂

    • That’s a perfect routine for you – nothing wrong with 7 1/2 hours, I say!
I am so on board with your husband. Last night I was SO CLOSE to finishing a chapter, but I CLOSED THE BOOK AND WENT TO BED.

  9. Wow! I do not have pajamas at all. I sleep in sweatpants and a sweatshirt in the winter and shorts and a tank in the summer. I find the idea of designated night clothing to be so classy!

I hope you have an excellent trip and that you never have to think about preparing a meal!!

    • Lol, that is me, super classy (in my pajamas with gingerbread men on them!) I do love a nice jammie set and since I receive them as gifts, it makes it easy to cycle out the old worn out ones.
      NO MEAL PREP YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

  10. These photos are great. I love the view outside your room. Wow. Your bathroom is so pretty and crisp. Of course you look cute in your jammies. I do like soft coordinated jammies. I stopped wearing pj bottoms for a while because of night sweats, but I think that phase has passed. Hooray.

I’ve gotten 8.5 hours of sleep 2x this week. What even? It was glorious. Last night might have been partly due to allergy shots as those knock me out. I’ve been really focused on getting to bed earlier and that has helped. I’m with you on how lack of sleep impacts me: brain fog and a ‘different’ facial appearance.

A trip to Mexico with another couple sounds like a great time. Looking forward to hearing all about it. May the carry-on luggage carry more than anticipated! Have a great trip.

  11. I’m not familiar with REM y REM but if it works for you then go for it. I’ve always excelled at sleeping, not to brag. I am impressed with your jammie storage system. My drawers are always a mess of jammie bottoms and tops, all willy nilly.

    • Ally, I heard REM REM on a podcast last summer and immediately adopted it and added the yoga piece; since I’m learning Spanish it seemed like a perfect addition!
Brag away, my friend! Sleep is precious! Also, try the rolling method, I mean, if you want. I’m not trying to pressure or boss you! But my jammie drawer was also willy-nilly and now it’s not, and my friend Gigi is the genius who gets all the credit.

  12. REM Y REM continues to be goals for me! I love that you found a way to KonMari your pajamas and continue to be so impressed by your routines. Have the best vacation!

  13. I love good pajamas too. My favorite brand is Bedhead PJs. They are insanely pricey, but so comfortable and cute and pretty and they last forever without fading. Have in Mexico! Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do!

  14. I am always so fascinated to read your blog because otherwise I would have no idea such persons like you exist. I’m more of a “if a tree falls in a forest and no one is around, obviously it’s silent and that tree can do whatever it wants” type of woman. I’ve been wearing the same t-shirt to sleep in every night for OVER SIX YEARS. I certainly don’t “dress for the job I want” because at this point every VP in my company has seen my small rotation of hoodies. FACINATING, I tell you!

    • The world is a wild kaleidoscope, Sarah! It’s so strange, I cannot function without an outfit and I cannot go to bed without pajamas. This probably says something strange about me, but hey, I’m not about to change now! I’m aiming to be the old lady in the nursing home all gussied up for arts and crafts time, with lipstick bleeding into my mouth wrinkles. Hashtag life goals.

  15. First off, have the best time in Mexico! How fun that you are meeting up with friends! We had fun going to Mexico last December as we were in dire need of some time away, but we would like to go with friends next time. It would be nice to have some people to dine with. We are not ‘make friends on vacation’ types but I bet you do with your outgoing and oh so friendly personality – and that chihuahua personality.

I read in bed, but it’s part of my winddown ritual and doesn’t mess with my sleep. We had thought about mid-day sexy times on days we both work from home but work has ended up being so ridiculously busy when we are both home that I barely see Phil. I had a few calls today and people were like “I’m so sorry to schedule something on a Friday!” Well it could just as well be a Tuesday with how I’ve been running around like a chicken w/ her head cut off! Or typing like a chicken with her head cut off since I’ve barely moved today.

Your pajamas game is superior to mine. I have pajamas for winter but it’s mostly old running shirts with pajama bottoms. Maybe I should invest in some better jammies. I did get some from my MIL but they were a fleece set and it’s just TOO HOT to be covered in head to toe in fleece. So I will only wear the bottoms and something less hot on top. Because even though I am naturally cold and struggle to stay warm, a fleece pajama set is a bridge too far.

Phil and I switch off doing the kids bedtime so every night Taco asks who is doing his bedtime (which he has some VOCAL opinions about) and lately he’s been asking who is doing my bedtime. Lolol.

    • I wore flannel pajamas for YEARS but am wayyyy too perimenopausal to do that now! These are a nice light material that are strangely cooling.
Mid-day sexytimes are the best kind of sexytimes, in my opinion. The problem was during the pandemic, everyone home all the time, something had to give!
We travel so well with these friends – so it’s going to be great! But you’re right, the last time my husband and I took a solo trip we ended up meeting a ton of people. My husband is similar to me in that he’ll talk to anyone. So it ended up feeling like a fun summer camp around the pool.

  16. Well, who knew my pj magic trick would make an appearance after all this time! LOL! I do love tidy dresser drawers though. And rolling or folding pjs together does make for a tidy drawer.

I am also a person who values matched pjs. Although, true confession, nine times out of ten those bottoms come off before I crawl into bed to go to sleep. I cannot STAND to have the pajama legs creeping up and wrapping themselves around my legs (which is why nightgowns get a very strong NO from me).

And yes, unless I am dying, I also get up and “get dressed” (face, hair and clothes) every single day. Otherwise, nothing seems to get done. Ok…some days things still don’t seem to get done; but I’m READY for things to get done.

    • Gigi, ever since you wrote about that – two years ago? Three years ago? – I have thought of you DAILY as I roll up my jammies. It’s just so brilliant and life-changing! I’m with you on no nightgowns, jammies with pants or shorts are the only way.

  17. My PJ drawers are a MESS, which is not super relaxing when I am getting ready for bed– I need to roll, I think. My rituals are very similar except I always shower because I make the whole fam shower at night because I am the one who changes the sheets and they might as well stay as clean as possible. I think the same things when I wake up sweaty even though my window is open and Ben is almost frozen to death.

    • Ha, the funny thing is that the boys always shower before bed and I always thought they’d switch at some point, but no. It’s part of their ritual, I guess. I always bathed them at night as littles, and now I guess it’s imprinted. I need to shower in the morning post-workout because I’m such a sweaty mess. In the summer I will often shower twice just to get rid of all the sunscreen.

  18. As we learn more and more about the importance of sleep, I am very impressed by your night time rituals. I consider it a major win to get 7 hours of sleep. I suffer from waking up to pee and then having difficulty going back to sleep.

Like you, I’m an afternoon delight girl who also wears makeup every day and more importantly, my hair must look good or I feel lousy! I’m excited for your trip to Mexico and I hope you post all about it because I love travel blogs. I’m headed to Florida in 5 weeks and it’s all I can think about. We are currently in the midst of a blizzard. 🥶

  19. Have fun in Mexico! Hopefully you will get some mid-day sexytimes while you are there (your comments with Lisa made me giggle)! Also, Pina Coladas are fun; I actually do like coconut and pineapple and could down about 40 of them on a hot day, but I would gladly take a virgin one (or 5), as the idea of day drinking is just not quite as fun as it used to be, and I don’t think a PC is an evening drink.

You crack me up with your rituals and PJs! I love hearing about all of it, as I am a boring simple person and generally just wear comfy pants and an old t-shirt to bed. Often the shirt is stained, as it becomes “PJs” when I can no longer wear it in public. I have not started the sweating yet, but I already sleep with the heat off, as I cannot stand a warm house at night! I would rather put on 10 blankets than sleep in an oven. I get up at 3:45/4 am on weekdays, but even on weekends I am generally up around 4:30 (or 5 if I “sleep in”) so am pretty much out of commission by 8 pm too!

    • Oh wow, you’re even an earlier bird than me! I find once the internal clock is set, it’s hard to unset it!
I can’t imagine having a pina colada in the evening, I like pineapple and I like coconut but I feel like it’s a bit too heavy of a beverage for me.

  20. I love this post! Yay sleep!!!!

Favorite parts: “Unless I decide to start a cocaine habit, that is OUT.”

“I’m like a cross between Aunt Bethany and C3PO.”

“Usually this borderline unhinged way of thinking is enough to lure my body back into slumberland, or into an incredible state of boredom that is akin to slumberland”

There have been many, many nights when I have very much depended on your assertion that lying there quietly, awake, is still REST. It helps stave off the “but I’m not SLEEPING” panic, and I am indebted to you forever for that.

I think I need some additional details about the pajamas. I wear an old t-shirt and a pair of Costco leggings to bed, pretty much every night, unless it’s too hot for leggings. I would LOVE to have a drawer full of cute pajamas to choose from! My husband got me a set of pjs for Christmas that I have yet to try (t-shirt and shorts, so… too chilly for winter I think) and I may become an addict???

Also I am WITH YOU about nighttime being for sleeping. Sometimes tricky, with small kids who rise early. Sigh.

Hope you have a fabulous vacation. xxoo

  21. I love your night time routine and I love that you have pretty pajamas. I think I’ll have to invest. I own one pretty set and then a couple of “mix and match” shirts and leggings that pose as pajamas ( = NOT ACTUAL PAJAMAS)…. but I feel like there is a secret hidden behind the pretty pajamas ritual?! Tell me.

    Have a great getaway.

  22. Love your nighttime routine & also agree that daytime is sexy time (esp since no one else lives in our house now!). I have strong sleep hygiene habits as I’m a terrible sleeper since menopause. I barely own pj’s. I have a robe I wear in the evening in cold weather and some light/short ones for evenings in warm weather but have been a nekked sleep my entire adult life I cannot even imagine wearing underwear! Have fun in Mexico. Hope the weather is good. Where we are there have been a lot of windy days and less sunshine than usual but that is common for January. But still – no cooking for you!

    • Oooh a sleep naturalist!!!
The weather was really good while we were there BUT there was quite a bit of wind, and rain on the first day. We have never been in January before, I think next year we will go in February. But still – perfect!

  23. I am also an early to bed person, usually by about 9:30, and I get up at around 5:15. I like to read in bed, it is part of my unwinding. It puts me to sleep, and I don’t even mind stopping in the middle of a sentence if that is what the sleep gods dictate.

I’ve been sleeping very well lately (I think Dry January has some lessons for me about sleep quality) and my skin does look better.

I don’t have official PJs, I wear an old pair of yoga pants and a tshirt, summer or winter. In summer it’s a bit too warm, but I can’t stand to have the skin of my thighs touch each other. When did I become so weird?

    Have a FABULOUS trip!

    • J, I know what you mean. I can really tell a difference between my weekday sleep and my Friday night (wine night) sleep – it’s significant. I wouldn’t mind hearing about the skin details if you want to share!

  24. bibliomama2 says

DAMN those are cute jammies. Our room is very cold at night, which I love, and I used to be able to wear flannel pjs and a t-shirt to bed, but now I can only wear shorts and a tank, and they are cute but get very worn because I have very specific needs for pajamas. Same goes for getting dressed when I’m staying home – I can dress nicely for work, but once I home I have to change into soft not-too-hot stuff.
I know everyone is different and different things work for different people, but reading these posts always make me wish I was a morning person. I do appreciate when I have to get out early for work or appointments and I see the morning and it’s nice, but getting up is torture. I am just a night owl, and I wish I could feel happier about it.
Same with reading in bed. I know it violates sleep hygiene, but it’s one of the greatest joys of my life and I can’t bring myself to stop. Your routine sounds so healthy and lovely.

    • I love that it’s one of the greatest joys of your life! Part of the reason I don’t like it is because I’m not comfortable lying down to read. I guess I’m just more of a couch person?
We had to buy a whole new duvet (a cooling one made with bamboo) and it’s really helped with my sweatiness!

  25. I hope you’re having a fabulous time in Mexico! Yes, a week of no chores, no thinking of what to eat — so wonderful!

I have a lot of pajamas! My husband used to buy me a pair every Christmas because he knew I loved them…but I finally told him to stop because I can’t use them all anymore. I hang them up because they’re too many to fold up and put in a drawer. Nordstrom used to carry lightweight flannel pajamas that I love. My late MIL used to buy my pajama (gifts) from Pajamagram. I have a confession, though…I use them mostly for lounging. They come off at night before I crawl into bed.

I wish I enjoyed putting on makeup as much as you (and some of your readers) do! When I used to go to the office, I’d put on a bit of eyeliner and lipstick — that’s it. I would see coworkers and/or other companies’ employees made up and I think, “Wow…they look so put together!” I’d be inspired to buy the cosmetics — but I just couldn’t be bothered to give it the time, I think…maybe because I’m not as interested in looking that put together? Now that I’m retired, I’m makeup-free probably 90% of the time, save for a bit of lipstick/lip gloss/lip balm when I run out to do errands.

I love how healthy your sleep habits are. I keep telling myself I should go to bed earlier…but I do get at least 7hrs of sleep…probably 7 to 7.5hrs and wake up feeling rested so I guess it’s not too bad.

Love the pics on this post…beautiful!

    • If you wake up feeling rested, well, that’s the key!
Wow, you hang up your pjs!!! That feels so fancy! I am going to look up Pajamagram, I feel like this is something up my alley.

  26. Thank you for this lovely post, Nicole! I own a total of two pairs of pajamas and one sleep shirt. Like M above, I don’t like sleeping in pajamas, I take them off and crawl into bed. Your post made me want to get some cute jammies, though! For lounging. I also have a similar evening routine, that goes through similar steps. Oh and that poem.. Right in the feels, loved it.

  27. I hope you have the BEST TIME in Mexico! What a perfect time to escape the winter doldrums to enjoy some sunshine and pool time!

I have taken a liking to nightgowns these days. I love that they don’t constrict anywhere! They’re just so comfortable. When it’s colder, I wear pajama pants and a big tee but that’s about as jammy as I go.

I have really enjoyed this comment section about people’s thoughts on sexytimes with their partners. Nobody talks about long-time partnered sex and I find the topic fascinating myself, lol.

    • Stephany, it is fascinating! I think also sexytimes can go through life stages, and it is pretty interesting and maybe we don’t talk about it enough? It’s a tricky subject to navigate publicly, I guess.

  28. How I love the way you delve into the mundane things in life, Nicole!
I roll my kids’ pjs together – it drives me nuts when they wear mismatched pjs. Of course this bothers only me, so when my Husband folds the laundry (which is 85% of the time) he just chucks them all together in a drawer, and I either grit my teeth and bear it, or I go through the laundry after he has put it away. My own sleepwear – is currently a hoodie and flannel pants because I hate being cold at night.
I hope you have a wonderful vacation!

  29. Michelle G. says

I love all your cute jammies! I have to admit that I’m a nightie girl. I love 100% cotton, loose, stretchy nighties that don’t even think of binding me anywhere! I’d wear them 24 hours a day if I could get away with it!
    I hope you’re having a wonderful vacation!

    • A nightie girl!! I love it. My aunt just recently told me (well, maybe five years ago, so “recent”) that she really got into housedresses, like old-timey loose housedresses, for summertime. I CAN SEE THIS IN MY FUTURE. And maybe in yours – because what’s a nightie if not a nighttime housedress?

  30. Oh, Nicole. You would shake your head (at least) and weep (most definitely) if you saw my a) pajamas, and b) sleep metrics. My sleep is objectively terrible. I have to move frequently throughout the night, which means I am up 2-3 times/night, and I cannot seem to sleep more than 6 hours. I know, I know. Worse? I am in the mismatched-whatever for pj’s, although I do have 2 sets for winter that are my warmest options. So, yes, I need a sleeptervention but it’s not going to change anytime soon, unfortunately. (*hangs head in shame*)

  31. The pajama post!!!
